Sheikh Zakzaky warns against ethnic division and violence in northern Nigeria

The Leader of the Islamic Movement, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H), received representatives of various pan-Fulani groups on Tuesday, the 22nd of April 2025, at his residence in Abuja.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Leader of the Islamic Movement, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H), received representatives of various pan-Fulani groups on Tuesday, the 22nd of April 2025, at his residence in Abuja.

In his speech, the Leader lamented the ploy by enemies to pit Northerners against one another in the name of tribal differences, whereby some so-called Hausa persons are spreading rhetoric against the Fulani. He reemphasized that Hausa is a nation, not merely an ethnic group, one that includes the Fulani and many other ethnicities.

The Leader warned against falling into the enemy’s ploy by engaging in ethnic clashes with any particular group for any reason, as tribal and ethnic conflicts are un-Islamic and contrary to the principles of civilization. He noted that the Prophet Muhammad put an end to tribalism and other uncivilized practices that were prevalent in pre-Islamic Arabia.

The recent spate of killings was also vehemently condemned, including the senseless killings in Plateau State that were given ethnic colouration, and other killings carried out in the name of banditry, described as ploys by the enemies to turn us against one another, with reference to the Hutu-Tutsi crisis in Rwanda. The Leader appealed to Fulani leaders to be law-abiding and contribute positively to their communities.
